Of course, but how do you know the total price would be lower if Sonic isn't considered a "phone company"? There maybe incentives, subsidies, access, etc. for including phone service to provide us Internet. And with the uphill battles Sonic has to go through, $65/month ain't too shabby with no data overage charge. If you wanna save $10, get your own router.

The router is basically free the first year, if you return it you lose the discount. So you have a year to play around with your existing router or to find a new router that works well in your home and plays nice with the Sonic service. Before the year is up, return Sonic's router to them - the bump up on year two for promo loss will be offset by the savings on not using a rental router. That's a year to find a perfect router and see if you can even find it on sale somewhere, all the while using Sonic's router and making sure there are no issues up to the router.

That was my plan all along. However, I was surprised by the ~ $12 per month in taxes and fees which I didn't see anywhere mentioned, nor was it mentioned when I called Sonic before signing up, nor in any of the emails (which always said $50) that I got in the year that I waited for my connection. Just sayin' ...

The Sonic supplied router doesn't seem to have the range of my old AT&T router. Any other recommendations for fast and powerful (range wise) routers?

Sonic, please come to morton way area, 95123 San Jose ASAP. Can't stand Comcast any longer, need the awesome price for gigabyte fiber.
