Try this. If you power cycle your modem, do you get your access back? At least for a little while?

If you have the older models of AT&T 2wire modems such as the 2700 or the 2701 models, there are frequent disconnect problems. You can see many reported issues by searching the phrase "2wire 2701 disconnect" and you see similar discussions about the modem. It is more likely a 2wire modem issue. Confusing reports in the discussions have some successful remedy on firewall settings, power adapter replacement, and disabling of wireless. Your mileage may vary and a last resort remedy is to find a replacement of your modem.

I have the older 2wire 2700 model and my issue happens frequently if a new computer (or device) connects with wireless to the modem causing a reset/reboot of the modem. I fix my problem with the modem in disabling wireless in my 2wire 2700 and use it just for DSL modem connection and hook up another wireless-n router behind one of the ethernet port.

And when I signed up for Sonic Fusion parting my path with AT&T, the new Pace411n modem takes away all the mysterious pain that I have been through with the 2wire modem.

Thanks,
Hin

Potential customer premise issue is an interesting possibility. If x3shift wants new equipment under our rental program, which provides free replacement, updates etc - here are the details:

http://sonic.net/solutions/home/interne ... /equipment

Any customers who would like an equipment update can order there, and new gear will arrive in a day or two.

im not entirely sure whether or not my parents currently pay that monthly fee for the modem. if not, i would need to pay a monthly fee to exchange it?

If you don't have the modem pictured, then they do not. Customers without our new rented equipment can opt in at their option, and if you have a suspected equipment issue, it's worth considering.

im slow. i do not have the pictured modem. if i want it to get rid of the disconnecting and modem resetting, can i get that new modem for free or would i have to pay?

The new equipment is rented, $6.50 per month. This gets you a modern modem/router/firewall with high power WiFi-N, and next-day replacement, ongoing upgrades and support troubleshooting integration. In other words, support can diagnose issues all the way through the CPE, push settings and firmware updates, and replace at our expense if its needed.
