Mutts comic strip double meaning references Sonic

This week, the Mutts comic strip that I read in the San Francisco Chronicle is running a series of "Shelter Stories" where they introduce a fictional dog or cat and sum up its personality and why it should be adopted in a couple of lines.

The May 8, 2019 strip introduced a dog named "Sonic".
"My name is Sonic and I'm very fast."
"I could be in your home in no time."

That's interesting. I wonder if it's a reference to the Fiber, or the Hedgehog!
