New Router?

I have Sonic (AT&T) Fiber being installed next week and now that the giddiness has worn off a little bit that I can finally dump Comcast, I'm wondering if my current router will be up to the task to get full speed from this new Fiber connection?

We signed up for the 1000 Mbps tier. I currently have an Apple Airport Extreme (4th Generation) router...is this going to be capable of delivering the full speed of the fiber? Or will I need to buy a different router?

Obviously over wifi the connection will be slower than the wired connection, but I plan to use wired connection at my desk for my work computer where it will really make a difference.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

check out Sonic's Eero offering. The basic router is a $10/mo rental anyway, while a 2-unit eero is $12.50/mo., so its hardly any difference for what I think it is a far better product.

You can get more eeros too if you are a power user ($8/mo for the big eero, $4/mo for the beacon eero)

The eero is a great product I really helps out if you need good wireless coverage in a bad coverage area.

I would also suggest run a speed test on your current router. If you are getting hard line speeds of 6-7-800+ you should be fine to use that.

With the ATT service, they give you a wireless router that is required to be connected to the ONT. The wireless range and speeds are decent but if you wish, you can disable wifi on it and setup your own devices after their router.
