My wife called Sonic yesterday to inquire about upgrading her service in Sunnyvale from Fusion IP Broadband X1 to X2, and the customer service rep told her it would require a bonded pair and a truck roll.
This confused me, as the AT&T techs who originally installed the X1 service (and troubleshot some issues with it) a few years ago told us that her link to the VRAD is clean enough and short enough to support 50Mbps on the existing single pair, and that they will provide that speed tier on a single pair when it's possible to do so.
I suppose her link could've deteriorated since then. And maybe a tech visit is necessary because of a limitation of the upgrade process, or because AT&T requires the modem to be upgraded or reconfigured.
But that's not what the rep said. He told us that X2 *requires* a bonded pair and cannot be delivered over a single pair. Which is the opposite of what the AT&T techs told us. And I could've sworn I've seen other customers in these forums report getting X2 over a single pair.
Do I misremember, have things changed since the service was originally installed, or was the Sonic rep mistaken yesterday? And if it's possible to get X2 over a single pair, then is it also possible to do so without a truck roll, if one already has X1; or does the modem need to be upgraded/reconfigured regardless?
