Verizon 5G vs. Fiber

Just wondering as this new service is rolling out (currently just a few cities) would this wireless method be the future? With no cables to install the current limitations of distribution of fiber would be eliminated. Latency probably would be high so gamers might have a problem. Also they state "no data cap" but as we know how "unlimited" cell worked out on all the major carriers! Anyways putting aside the company of Verizon wouldn't this form of distribution be the future? Especially for those of us who are doomed to 4.5/.87 DSL speeds for an unspecified decades! Hopefully someone can delve into the details of this technology.

If Sonic wants to do underground conduit greenfield multi strand 10 gigabit fiber rings like Verizon is doing to feed these 28 GHz 1024T1024R Massive Mimo small cells running proprietary Verizon 5G Tech Forum specifications with 8 component carriers running 100 mhz each (640 mbps capacity each CC) then yeah. It's an option. Free electrical power, cheap to no cost city utility property access, reduce to no barrier for red tape, and getting a hold of most government contracts is also nice as well...

For little guys without the resources of Verizon like Sonic, WPON seems like something new they could make use of.

I’m actually in LA today for the Mobile World Congress, specifically looking at wireless solutions, both as an enabler for us, and as a competitive force. Fixed wireless is an arena we have watched for a long time, but I’m not convinced it’s a fit in our network yet. Particularly with a goal of delivering reliable Gigabit service, the solutions just aren’t quite there. And often it turns out that building fiber has a long run TCO that’s better.
