Any word on when the north side of Haste, just east of MLK will be completed? I saw a couple Sonic trucks in the neighborhood a couple weeks ago but nothing since. I also seem to pick up some "Sonic-xxxx" SSIDs so clearly my neighbors have it, either the south side of Channing or south of Haste.

Also, I see a bunch of responses in this thread saying they can find estimates in Member Tools, where exactly can I find this info? I've pre-ordered already.

Ok this is all getting a little confusing. I have not seen a Sonic truck anywhere near us in weeks. I did mention that AT&T ran Fiber up into the hills (in a few days actually) and now I am more confused by what is happening than ever.
We got flyers from ATT that service is now available ($90 per month 12 month agreement for 1000 plus $100 reward card plus discount if you have or add ATT phone or TV and free Gateway Wifi router without monthly fees) . But is also seems some addresses (like my mother in law which has the same fiber line in front of her house that we have 150 feet away) can now get Fiber from Sonic (using AT&T) but our street (again, same line) can only pre-order sonic.
I wish Sonic would just sell ATT Fiber to all who don't want to wait but still want Sonic and then let us switch to sonic lines later.
I would rather wait because I don't really like AT&T as a company but it really depends on how long. I like comcast even less and had them for years. If Sonic is not coming until later in 2019 then it would be worth it to pay less for ATT than I now pay for comcast (well, close). If Sonic is still on track for a few weeks or month from now, great. It does worry me that I really never see any Sonic crews anywhere in the North Berkeley Hills. There used to be a few trucks on Oxford and even MLK further down but not in some time at least not when I leave the house, come back or on weekends. My wife has also seen none.

A friend pinged me yesterday to let me know he'd managed to sign up for Sonic Gigabit. He's near Cedar & Spruce (if people want to rush to the Availability tool). He's been a customer of Sonic for 10+ years (originally recommending them to me) so is very excited about the upgrade.

BUT ... Sonic never reached out to him in anyway whatsoever to let him know service was available. Nothing. I keep hearing how people will be told once service is available but I also keep hearing from current customers/friends where this simply never happens. Anyone? Or do I just know all the unlucky people.

All existing Sonic Fusion customers in Fiber footprint should get an email early in the process to let them know fiber is coming, then a sequence of emails when the fiber distribution area they're in goes live. The only case where this second set wouldn't come is if they visit Member Tools after it's live and place an upgrade order - no need to notify in that case. Maybe that's what happened?

aanon4 wrote: Thanks for this ... however ... I am still curious why your engineer in my street said the fiber was active across from my house? I assume he'd know - after all, he was up a pole messing with it. Also, the tap on your fiber clearly comes from the across the road from 1188 which is in FDA30 (and is where your guys with the cherry-picker were working) ... but this zone isn't active?

So ... reading between the lines a little here ... I'm guessing the fiber passing my house is live but because the rest of my zone is incomplete in some way, you aren't selling access to it yet? Well you have people wiring up a cage at the other end of my block today, so I can hope it's the last bit.
Your street carries a 288 strand backbone cable that goes to the Albany central office, in addition to the 96 fiber distribution cable that serves the homes on the street. The former is in service, while the latter is pending completion of your fiber distribution area - that'd likely be splicing and testing at the local convergence point cabinet. ;)
Well they appear all done with the local cabinet, so now I guess its just a matter of when the rest of this zone is finished? I don't know the boundaries so difficult to guess when that'll be.

Is there a place where we can check which zone our house is in and what stage of installation it might be in? I'm one of those who signed up last December for Fiber but keep getting the 'next month' email. We're due southeast of Cragmont Elementary School.

Have called tech support and was told they didn't have any new information. Last week I drove past someone in a Sonic truck down the street taking readings. Didn't want to get too excited.

I was really hoping for some sonic comment on my AT&T questions. Why do some addresses offer sonic via Att in our area but 150 feet up (same line I comes from our area) is not offering it? As I said I rather wait for sonic but att is available now and if sonic takes several more month a year att would be better than Comcast for the same price. Sonic via att until sonic is available on their own would also be nice and buy sonic more time.

@csmeisel The addressing/service availability process series of separate systems that attempt to work together. Wire runs aren't always the same to every address, regulations limit certain equipment, ATT has it owns rules for who Sonic can sell to and Sonic's own policies regarding if/when/should provide resold internet to customers can all add to addresses not showing up with service even though a visible inspection shows they are.

Basically I don't know the exact reason why and often the reasoning ends up being "That is how it is" BUT having said that I will see if I can find some details in your exact situation.

Because your neighborhood will be online with Sonic fiber soon, we do not offer the AT&T fiber there. If we did, it'd result in two installations, equipment provided twice, a costly early termination fee, etc.

They're doing testing of the fiber there now, and it should go live very soon. As an existing customer, as soon as that happens you should get an email inviting you to visit the member tool to schedule your migration to the fiber at https://members.sonic.net/connections/serviceupdate/
