This is amazing news, I live at 1612 Harmon Street, and have been on the pre-order list since August of last year.
I hope this means I can finally call in on Monday and rid myself of Comcast.

Thank you !

While we are hopeful we will see a permit issued early next week, what this means is that we can re-start construction in Berkeley. We have many months of construction work to catch up on at this point.

So, not Monday, but we hope to start construction next week, and look forward to enabling you firing Cable soon!

However they are charging 150.00/ mo for internet alone to avoid data caps ( I bought my own modem/ router and don't have TV through Xfinity). It's a huge rip-off; however, I had to agree to update my contract w/ them because without fiber THERE ARE NO ALTERNATIVES if I want that kind of speed (even in America 290 is greater than 20).
I'm really curious about why you needed to re-commit to a Comcast contract..? Why not just let it lapse to month-to-month until Sonic completes construction in your area and delivers?
Hi Dane: Thanks for your reply. The reason for having to recommit to Comcast was that instead of 150.00 per month, they were going to bump it up to 200.00 or more if we did month to month. We were being given a "break" on getting 250 mps speed plus the extra 50.00 data cap fee would also go up. Ain't Xfinity great? We renewed the contract in November 2018. Given that I was supposed to have been hooked up last October, 2018 and originally signed up for Gig fiber service in December 2017, it seemed, and still seems, probable and reasonable that the realization of fiber service is probably still months away. I have seen Sonic trucks in Berkeley (mostly in the hills and blocks away), but my area is usually the last to get many services (including the mail). Safe bet we will not be in the first 80% of hookups. As of last update, 26% of neighborhoods in "my area" are currently connected. Not really worried about signing up for contract as it looks like it will be near the termination date (approx October, 2019) around connection time to Sonic.

Woo-hoo! The permit just showed up as 'ready to issue'. Let's get to work!

Hi -- any response to this?

gmg wrote:Can you give me an update on the 1900 block of Oregon street in Berkeley (near Berkeley Bowl), please? I signed up for Sonic in December of 2017, got an estimated connection date of November of 2018, and I'm still waiting with no real updates other than the generic multi-city status emails. People way north of me got connected months ago, and it's great that people a little south of me are getting connected now, but all I've seen in my neighborhood are ATT trucks and ATT fiber. Comcast is worse than ever. It's very depressing.

Help me Sonic. You're my only hope.
Hey -- I'm apparently a neighbor of GMG's and would like to know the status. I called in and the tech said it might be six months? 2 Weeks ago I saw ATT installing fiber to a building a few houses down from me, I don't quite get what's going on.

I feel the update emails have been severely lacking. Month after month of 'we have turned on some of your neighborhood' is not helpful, especially when calling in tells me I may be 6 extra months out, 6 months past the turn on date, 2 years past the preorder.

Nevermind, the lack of communication has been too much, canceled my preorder. AT&T can offer gigabit fiber right now, I'm tired of waiting and being told you 'dont know when'.

I'm guessing you didn't see my post just above yours. The permit that was holding up construction in our area of Berkeley was just approved today. Based on how fast Sonic got other parts of Berkeley up and running, I would guesstimate they will finish Berkeley in about 4 months or so. Just my opinion though.

Dwight is far enough away from me that I'm not likely in that zone, but I don't know because I've been told nothing.

No communication for a year, then in Jan an apology saying 'sorry, we're going to do better about communicating', and then months of useless 'we're working on it!' emails that have told me exactly nothing. The excuse for missing the original turn-on date was that it was the holidays, and so they couldn't do any construction downtown -- I don't live near downtown.

I called in a few months ago, was told it would be about a month. I called in 2 months ago, was told it would be a month or two. Then I called in a month ago and was told they don't know, that it would probably be 6 months or a year.

I am absolutely tired of this. LMI flyered my door offering gigabit. AT&T has been mailing me about gigabit. Sonic has had me 'preordered' for 1.5 years and has communicated nothing useful. Why was AT&T able to secure permits to build fiber, but Sonic not, when they took my preorder 1.5 years ago?

The permit delay was for everything west of Shattuck and south of University.

LMI resells Sonic service, so their claim of availability is an optimistic look in to future ;)

ATT has data caps and no net neutrality.

Take your pick.

Apparently LMI also resells AT&T.

AT&T does not have data caps on fiber.

You're right about NN, but Sonic isn't giving me a choice.
