New FCC rule regarding fiber.

I'm thinking, could Sonic use this new legislation to increase fiber installations?

We definitely see some positive elements in these proposed new rules, and we will support them at the FCC.

However, California is one of twenty states that preempt federal regulation of poles, and instead have their own rules. To their credit, the California right of way rules for access to poles have been better than the existing federal standards, so CA has been a leader since 1998. But these new federal rules appear to be superior in a number of ways, so we will now have to try to convince CA to adopt some of the key components.

If we are successful at that, it’s likely to take a couple years.

I have an ulterior motive, I just want fiber at my non-Bay Area or Sonoma County home. :-)
