Only 0.8Mbps on new fusion service

My Fusion service got activated today, and I only get 0.8Mbps downstream. When I called customer support, I was told I am 14K feet away and this is close to the best I can hope for. Is that really the case? (Frankly, why even sell this service for such distances if that is indeed the case?)

Thanks.

Sometimes that can be the case but not always. Loop length helps us estimate your speeds but it doesn't guarantee a certain one. I recommend you call us back in about 5 days so we will have some diagnostic data to go by. If there is trouble with your line, then your slow speeds may be due to that. Plus, sometimes the prequalification data isn't always accurate so if that's where the 14k estimate came from, there are other sources we can check to confirm your distance.

I have the same problem, unfortunately, down in 94621. The web tool puts me at 12,055ft from the local office, which gives me speeds consistently hovering around 0.85mbps. Working from home on web-based projects, this makes things pretty difficult.

I like Sonic a lot, for a variety of reasons, so I'm not planning to drop my service or anything like that. Heck, that EFF report alone probably guaranteed you a customer for life. That being said, I'd really like to know if there were any solutions (or better yet, expansion plans) for people in my neck of the woods.

At 12,000ft, you should be seeing better performance than the less than a megabit you're getting. Do phone support and they can see if there is a loop issue.

Performance is tied to distance more than anything else though, and at a long distance, Fusion is slow - but it's still a good value, and for those without cable options it would also be the fastest solution. As we don't know where cable is and is not available, and as it's tough to determine whether or not folks are more interested in value or performance, we do continue to offer Fusion on longer loops.
