Where to check official status of OpenVPN?

Is there a way to check the official status of OpenVPN and report an outage if it's not already known? It seems to have gone down this morning about an hour ago... Friday 1:15am-ish. Still down.

The servers that handle OpenVPN were rebooted for kernel security updates but as far as I can tell from stats, the resulting outages were just a few minutes associated with shutdown/startup.

To answer the question - check http://sonicstatus.com - you can also subscribe to the MOTD list to receive updates via email.

Hi kgc,
Thanks for the replies... but...

1. The status page doesn't list the maintenance that you mentioned and which may have caused my problem...

2. I still can't connect to the internet through the VPN starting this morning around 12:15am. I can connect to the internet without the VPN, and I can connect to the VPN, just not through it.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Jeff,

As of the 10th the most recent post on sonicstatus.com titled "System Maintenance" is the post that would be applicable to the vpn reboot. Typically the general sounding posts such as that one mean a kernel update hit for one of our distros, which usually means hundreds of machines are affected and it's safe to assume that's the reason for the VPN interruption.

Looking through the VPN logs it seems your client didn't attempt to reconnect until sometime in between Kelsey and your posts, so what should have been a brief outage then reconnect didn't pan out that way. You may very well have a good reason to use the version of the client you are using, but for testing purposes it might be worth trying the newest installer available from the login page at ovpn.sonic.net (or here https://docs.openvpn.net/connecting/con ... ect_Client ). I know they have released a handful of bug fixes in their most recent client.

Thanks,
Justin
