I got a notice in my email client [claws mail] that another new POP cert was found. It looks like the new one expires sooner than the old one, which sounds a bit strange. Is this true, and is this new COMODO cert OK?

Yes, cert changes were intentional. Not sure about the expiration dates, that doesn't make sense.
