Any accurate gigabit speed test site?

I've gotten my gigabit service for six months now and my speed test results are all over the board. I have randomly done over a dozen speed tests over a period of time. Here are today's results:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/7153874717
  • download: 605.44 Mbps
  • upload: 525.28 Mbps
  • ping: 4 ms
https://sonic.speedtestcustom.com/resul ... e542e55375
  • download: 508.3 Mbps
  • upload: 199.8 Mbps
  • ping: 5 ms
  • jitter: 5 ms
First, I never gotten speeds (up or down) over 900 Mbps. I have gotten close on a couple of occasions so I know my setup can reach 1 Gpbs speeds. I should add the majority of tests are above 500 Mbps.
Second, I have tried numerous speed test sites including speedtest.net, sonic.speedtestcustom.com, speedtest.xfinity.com, https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/, speedtest.att.com/speedtest/, speedtest.googlefiber.net/, etc., and the results from each test site all differ quite a bit on successive tests. This leads me to think, not all speed test sites are capable of testing gigabit speeds.

Before someone asks... wired connection, single server, no other user/usage, etc. Same setup, system configuration not changed, random test times over six month period.

In contrast, my speed test for Fusion (same location, ADSL ~8Mpbs) and Comcast (different location, ~150Mbps) are consistent. But both of these are not gigabit service.

Speedtests are designed to give a rough estimate of your speeds, but unfortunately they are not perfect and most are not designed for Gigabit speeds in mind. Different tests defaulting to different test servers can also provide fluctuation in results. With Gigabit speeds it gets a little bit more complicated because the bottleneck can become the CPU on the router or on your individual device (my laptop in office would cap 300Mbp/s or so lower on a speedtest if I had anything more than the browser open at the time of testing).

No issues with Unwired as the test server on speedtest.net here.

It makes me feel good to use Comcast’s speed test and reliably get 900+ up/900+ down and 2ms ping :D

(Using Sonic fiber of course)

Many consumer LANs and equipment are not fast enough to demonstrate gigabit speeds. This is why we have our installers equipped with fast laptops, so we can test and demonstrate the >900Mbps IP payload throughput during the installation wrap-up.

The Ookla Speedtest folks have put together a nice summary of tips to get the most speed, it might be helpful for you. Here's that: http://www.speedtest.net/insights/blog/ ... s-to-help/

Dear users,

Setup a test pc with windows 10
and a gigabit card

If in Sf Use
speedtest.net
and Server
Fast Metrics

If you
Have UsB 3.0
Try a usb 3 to Gigabit Adapter

Ps,
I use
Netgear R6220
Gigabit router
with wifi Off

Note :
Under Comcast SF
Netgear Docsis 3.1 Modem
I
Needed Windows 10
To
Reach 900 in my test

Also
speedof.me can be Like a Base Line.
Or
Fast.com
for Quick Burst Test

I use Tplink gigabit Switches to Boost
Distance and speed.
TP-Link 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch | Plug and Play | Metal | Desktop | Limited Lifetime (TL-SG108)

If you Have 1 PC Reaching 500MB
And 1 pc Reaching 9xx
Then that is Pretty Good.

Best of
Luck
