Cannot get MAC filtering to enable on AT&T 5258AC gateway

Went to gateway Settings > LAN > WiFi. I see--
*Wi-Fi MAC Filtering
*2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Radio
*MAC Filtering is: Disabled
When I click the Enable button, I see:
*Errors
*You must disable WPS in order to use MAC address filtering.
Then I navigate to WiFi Protected Setup and disable it.
Trying again to enable MAC filtering produces the same warning.
I read that MAC filtering only works for 2.4 GHz, but was not successful shutting down 5 GHz.
Any tips would be welcome. Got a teen I gotta ween, if you know what I mean.
