Hi,

I'm measuring my connection using speedtest-cli (https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli) and it seems too slow:

./speedtest-cli
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from Sonic (XX.XX.XX.XX)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Fastmetrics Inc. (San Francisco, CA) [XXXX km]: 8.572 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 40.82 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 48.39 Mbit/s

I've followed the instructions in https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/Welcome_To_ ... low_Speeds and all seems fine, my device is connected to the Sonic router using an ethernet cable and the device supports 1000mpbs:

sudo ethtool enp2s0 | grep Speed
Speed: 1000Mb/s

Thanks for any help.

OK, I might be doing something stupid... I connected directly to the internet (bypassing the sonic router) and got:

./speedtest-cli
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from Sonic (XXXXXXXX)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Monkey Brains (San Francisco, CA) [XXXX km]: 3.738 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 825.60 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 274.31 Mbit/s

So I don't understand why if use the router I get much lower speeds if I'm using ethernet cables...

BTW, my router is the Pace 5268AC.

Try Speedtest Desktop: http://www.speedtest.net/apps/desktop
Or iperf3 (see the other thread in this forum).

They're much better at maxing out the fiber connection.

What kind of ethernet cord are you using to plug into the router. only CAT 5e or CAT 6 are good enough to support 1000Mb/s.

CAT 5 is only capable of 100Mb/s for example. Also what speed are you seeing when plugged into the router?

Try speedtesting on https://sonic.com/speedtest or http://www.speedtest.net/

Most speedtests are not designed for Gigabit Fiber testing. Let us know if you still see any issues!

Hi, thanks all for your replies. I'm still seeing a huge disparity if I do the bandwidth testing connected directly versus through the PACE router. I did the following experiment this time:

- using the same CAT.5 ethernet cable for both measurements
- using http://sonic.speedtestcustom.com

And here's the numbers I got:

connected directly:

914.1 mbps download
740.3 mbps upload

now, connected through the PACE router:

362.1 mbps download
20.3 mbps upload

Does that mean that I should get a better router?

Thanks.

Odd. Maybe we've got a defective unit, but generally it'd either be broken or not broken. Do contact support and they can do a swap. Also, have them check to assure firmware is current.

We have many thousands of fiber customers with Pace routers, and in their default configuration they are gigabit capable.

Can you try the same with CAT6 ( cat 5e ) cable ?

It seems that was the issue... I bought some CAT6 cables and I get much higher speeds now, thanks you all!
