Enabling UPnP or NAT-PMP on Pace 411 Router (for Plex Remote Access)

I have installed a Plex server on my QNAP NAS. It would like to have UPnP or NAT-PMP enabled. Sonic support said they "think" the Pace 411 router supports this, but can't tell me how as it is "unsupported".

I can't find anything online that says how to enable either or both of these in the router, and I've scanned all the router menus and don't see anything.

If I can't do this, I will go to port forwarding. But Plex says the "best experience" is with UPnP or NAT-PMP so I want to try those first. Any Plex suggestions welcome!

I am reasonably technically competent, but not in the networking area (e.g., I had to go to wikis to figure out what these protocols do). So treat this as a noob question, I suppose!

If it's like the Pac 5268ac, it doesn't support UPnP. Your best bet would be to get a router which supports UPnP or NAT-PMP and using DMZ mode to have the gateway assign the public IP address to the router.

I don't know if it supports UPnP Nat-PMP or Nat-PCP (I don't have one :)) but you could always forward the port in the pace router if your not using a 2nd router. This guide will explain how to do it.

I think Plex uses the default tcp port of 32400 which you can change in the plex software. Remember exposing the port means everyone else may be trying to guess the user/pass or exploit to get access. Not sure if Plex has anyway to allow only certain subnets or options but QNAP does in this link.

Indeed, you can setup port forwarding on the router from the WAN to the IP of your QNAP
Make sure the QNAP always has the same local IP (in DHCP setup for the QNAP MAC address to always map to the same IP address.
For plex server you typically only need to forward TCP 32400.
a list of ports used by plex is at https://support.plex.tv/articles/201543 ... -firewall/
If 32400 is already used (maybe by another plex server), in plex server setup "remote access" section you can chose which TCP port to use (in the advanced settings).
