Just passed two AT&T trucks pulling what appeared to be fiber cable. Stopped and spoke with a worker who confirmed it. This is on Peralta Ave, just north of Gilman Street. Unfortunately for me, they're stopping at Gilman Street and won't continue south on Gilman until later in the year. Suppose this means Sonic is no longer a viable choice in this area.

Not sure where else in N. Berkeley AT&T is doing FTTH.

Is it just fiber, or fiber to the home?

At the time I asked, it was FTTP. While I was enthusiastic about the possibility of getting fiber at the time of my original post, the AT&T pull stopped at the intersection of Gilman and Peralta Ave. Since I was further down on Peralta, I was disappointed. However, in the last month or so, I received notification that Sonic fiber would be available in April 2018, so I'm now happy to continue my relationship with Sonic and glad that I don't have to consider Comcast or another gigabit provider.
