Replace Pace 5268AC with 2Wire 3600/3800HGV? or...?

Currently I'm using the Pace 5268AC modem that came with my Sonic service. I paid $200 for that unit. Sonic support tells me that if I return the Pace to Sonic they will credit me the $200. What I want to know is: can I use one of the 2Wire modems instead? I know that the 3600HGV and 3800HGV both support VDSL, which is what I have. Will I see a reduction in my line speed? (Currently I get about 50kbps down and 15kbps up.) Any other issues I should know about?

Alternately, can anyone recommend a suitable replacement modem for the Pace? I have a router I like, all I need is the modem.
