BTW Sonic has 1, 10, 100, and 1000 MB test files on their FTP server. Best I've seen from that, though, has been about 700 Mbps.

Yes, this wouldn't be a good test; that server itself is only connected via gigabit, and has some upstream bottlenecks.

Last time I tested that I got around 930-950 mbps with overhead ( if any ) and whatnot that is close enough to 1 gig for me :P

Those FTP test files just wont go away. ;)

The speedtest server has 2x10G LAG and will not be the source of a slow down.

Gonna need a bigger FTP test file to really test gigabit speeds. :D

Got connected with Sonic Fiber today.

Have some concerns.

10:34 first speed test via Ookla. (What your tech recommended.)
10:34am 744.02 Down 766.90 Up
4:27pm 609.16 Down 665.13 Up 18% drop Down 13% drop Up
5:54pm 497.20 Down 612.16 Up 18.4% drop Down 8% drop Up

Downloading we are looking at an approximate drop of 40% in less than 24 hours.
Uploading we are looking at an approximate drop of 21% in less than 24 hours.

Thoughts anyone?

All i know is i'm not happy with sonic anymore. when the home service was $50 per month for phone and dsl it was a good price, at $60 I am considering switching to comcast for $50.

My buddy with comcast downloads a 65 gb gta5 game in a little over an hour and it takes me 2 and 1/2 days with sonic dsl.

Tonight I am looking at an update of 12gb for Chost Recon and my buddy just downloaded it in 10 minutes and my computer says 7 and 1/2 hours at 450 kbs so its fucked.

Why is his $60/month cable internet giving so much faster speed.

Of course you give unlimited phone but with comcast I can get a voip system for a few bucks a month and have unlimited phone also. So...i am strongly considering ditching SONIC.

Maybe try downloading a Linux ISO via bittorrent? You'll be getting your bits from many different servers, so not constrained by limits on any one.

(Just did a quick test with the latest Ubuntu ISO, and I'm seeing 4,838 seeders ... and I'm pulling bits from 93 of them.)

Well there is huge difference between comcast cable and sonic DSL ... speed would be one due to means of transmission among many other things . I suggest you look into alternative options from SONIC , FTTN being pone of them if FTTH is not available.
