DSL is abysmal. Help!

We're in Northeast Santa Rosa and our DSL has been slowly degrading for a few months now, especially at night. We were getting download speeds of 5 Mbps, but now we're getting .5 Mbps if we're lucky. Several Sonic technicians have worked with us on this issue and confirmed the problem is upstream from our house.

I understand that AT$T has a repair ticket on this and I've seen their van here on my street a few times, but either in mid-morning or mid-afternoon when the speeds are 4-5 Mbps. If they're testing the lines, they need to be here at 5 or 6.

I'd love to go to Fusion broadband but we're 8000 feet behind a CO.

I hate to say it, but at this point, we're seriously considering going to the dark side with Comcast internet.

Please say it ain't so Sonic!

I did a bit of digging around for you, and we do still have people working on this as recently as May 31st. The current situation is that the AT&T DSL equipment that serves your neighborhood is suffering from congestion - there are too many people being served at peak hours to maintain full speed. Basically, it's DSL rush hour, and AT&T ought to think about adding some lanes. ;-)

I'm a little over 8,000 feet from the CO, and I'm on Fusion, with 11+ Mbps download rate. Before I switched to Fusion, AT&T wouldn't allow over 3 Mbps.

Did you try the qualification tool on Sonic.net's site?

I did try the qualification tool and it was a no-go as of yesterday. How long should we wait for AT$T to add lanes?!
:-(

Lee, If I'm looking at the right number you are actually 8k feet behind an remote terminal. You should continue to work with support with the AT&T congestion issues.

No offense, but aren't you guys supposed to be the ones working with ATT support? If you can't get a response from them, I doubt they'll pay much attention to us. Just saying....

I think Kelsey was saying you should continue working with Sonic support. :)

Any news on ATT lines in NE Santa Rosa? Support tells me that they're working on it, but we've been hearing that for awhile now. We're getting close to changing over to Comcast at this point.

We offer Fusion out of the two Santa Rosa COs, but if you're beyond the reach of those, it's AT&T line-shared DSL, max of 6Mbps. The solution for this is Fiber-to-the-Home, which we've begun to build in Sebastopol. Please DO stick with us on this journey, it will take time, but you can make a difference by supporting our efforts financially by being a customer.
