So I am confused. I have bonded fusion services now. Am I able to go with FTTN with x2? I am so far away in sunset, 9670 feet from CO and I don't think Uverse is available either. Does that mean I can only stuck with old copper wires?

We're all a bit confused. Sorry about that.

Fusion was a very simple product: unlimited phone plus Internet, for $40. It was delivered with ADSL2+, and POTS - "plain old telephone service".

From a pricing and product design perspective, it remains simple: it's still unlimited phone plus Internet, for $40. But now we've got some complexity behind the scenes:

For example, in some locations close to COs, Fusion is now delivered using Sonic VDSL2 equipment, which yields higher speeds. We call this "V2".

We've also launched "X2", which is a feature that bonds two lines, at an additional cost of $20 for the second line, roughly doubling speeds.

But in other locations, generally further from COs, Fusion will soon be delivered using AT&T Fiber-to-the-node (VRAD) cabinets, which can deliver higher speeds to locations where ADSL2+ is too slow. In these locations, telephone service is delivered over-the-top using VoIP. This service is "Fusion FTTN". And again, a faster "X2" variant is offered.

For all of these, existing members will be offered upgrade or migration opportunities where available. We're working now to get all of these things launched, and then we'll be working with Sonic members to make changes and upgrades where appropriate.

Thanks Dane, So besides true fiber to the house, which service can provide the best speed and reliability vs costs? FTTN or X2? Can FTTN also be bonded? How would I know what product will be available? Again I do not think Uverse is a choice for me, at least from ATT site database.

Fusion FTTN is delivered via the AT&T VRAD (UVerse) network of fiber connected nodes. If there isn't one serving you, then Fusion X2 will be your best bet for now.

I think I recall that you are in the Sunset region in SF, so perhaps Fusion Fiber will arrive soon!

Yes I am on 41st ave and Ortega but you said it will be a while before coming our way. Build out on the North and South first. So I am guessing it may be a year before it will come to us. Is that true? I am with Sonic for 5 years and cant wait for fiber

Hi Dane, how do phones work if you do FTTN? Is it still possible to use POTS phones? Can inside house POTS wiring still be used? Will you be managing the VOIP telephone service or AT&T?

It's been very nice using POTS with Fusion and not having to make any changes on the telephone end. But we live very far from the central office so FTTN nearby would probably be a lot faster than Fusion. It's awesome that you will be able to FTTN X2.

Are you on 41st, or Ortega? If the latter, there will be some delay.

I have a few questions on the voice service on Fusion FTTN:

1) As the service is VoIP, will it be able to work with fax machines?
2) How much bandwidth does the VoIP take from the Fusion FTTN internet connection?

Fax machines may work, or may not. VoIP and fax often work fine, but sometimes they do not. Same goes for alarm systems. You may choose to retain a copper landline for these if they do not work for you on the VoIP service.

When a call is in session, the VoIP connection uses less than 50kbps.

So AT&T would be the provider for the existing copper line then? Or would subscribers be paying Sonic?
