all -

anyone have any success in snmp polling the zyxel p-663hn-51 fusion/dsl
modem? I enabled SNMP on it and was able to snmnpwalk the tree once, but
after that i get nothing when polling it.

zyxel web site doesn't show anything - in fact when looking for any newer firmware
doesn't show anything (i'm running 1.01 on it).

i'm setting up mrtg to graph usage from a ubuntu host.

thx

sorry to answer my own question - a reboot of the zyxel cleared up the
issue, can do snmp polling now fine.

I tried a full snmpwalk a few times & it kept on answering, so either i
ran into a time based bug or the 2x4 of cluelessness just smacked
me across the head...

as a great mentor once told me when i started in the techy world oh
so long ago - "when in doubt power out"

I see this behavior frequently. It's pretty easy to get SNMP to fall over on the bonded ZyXEL with snmpwalk. I haven't yet figured out the exact sequence of steps necessary to get snmp to fall over, but it seems like if I do anything besides run snmpwalk as soon as the modem boots, then if I later run an snmpwalk, it will fail.

Here's a relevant syslog from the ZyXEL of the kernel killing off its snmp daemon in response to an snmpwalk:

Code: Select all

kernel: do_page_fault() #2: sending SIGSEGV to snmp for invalid write access to
kernel: 00000008 (epc == 2ab110f4, ra == 2ab11078)
