Hello,

Back in March 2022 Sonic indicated there would be an upgrade path for 1GB subscribers with an additional fee. Is there any update when at a minimum existing subscribers will be able to indicate interest for an upgrade? I appreciate that it might not be feasible for Sonic to upgrade certain areas but I do feel like it will be hard to know without customers being able to indicate interest.

Specifically I'm looking for any way to shed the land line fees. Costs for all services have gone up over the last year and I don't want to pay for things I don't use.

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,

Thank you for reaching out regarding your interest in upgrading from 1gb to 10gb service. We are working on this and hope to provide customers with the ability to accomplish this in the near future.

Sonic's most significant obstacle or task is upgrading the back-end infrastructure in 1gb areas to compatible infrastructure for 10gb service. Once back-end infrastructure is upgraded, we can start allowing 1gb customers to initiate the upgrade process.

Ok, here's a meta-question. If you can't tell us when 10 Gig will be available, can you tell us when you will be able to tell us? Or promise to email interested customers when an availability date is posted? I just don't want to look at this forum a year from now and find out that 10 Gig has been available for six months.

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, once we have the upgrade request tool in place, we'll notify customers that's online. It'll be in the Member Tools and will allow customers to pre-order an upgrade. Interest in that will help us identify which markets to prioritize, as well as to determine the financial viability and timing. Doesn't solve some of the power and cooling density challenges for us, which are unique to each market (and really each cabinet or chassis), but it's a step in the right direction.
