Wait, Sonic now offers GPON without a phone line? When did that change?

Hi everyone,

Wait, Sonic now offers GPON without a phone line? When did that change?

Also could someone help me interpret the screenshot below. Does this mean YES native Sonic fiber infrastructure is available? Or is it via AT&T or is it NOT available and you just sign-on on a waiting list - hence the statement "Enter your email address to request fiber now"?

Clarification would be appreciated

Thanks
Boyan

I believe Sonic stopped offering AT&T-based options earlier this year. Anything offered SHOULD be Sonic-owned/operated.

Correct and that box used to say provided by AT&T or something like that. Besides that, AT&T's FTTH caps out at 5Gbps (which a lot of areas still don't have access to) and the old resold service was only 1Gbps if I recall correctly.

From what i understand naked fiber is available only on 10 Gbps circuits.
So 1 Gbps fiber and xDSL require a phone line.

Hi Boyan,

As mentioned previously above, we are no longer partnered with AT&T and moving forward are only offering service through our own infrastructure. The picture you shared is for our newer XGS-PON Fiber service, which we're working hard to expand.

Unfortunately, this service is not available in your area yet, but rather this is a request that allows Sonic to gauge how much demand there is in a given area to help us prioritize which areas to expand to first.

For areas that already have the XGS-PON infrastructure in place, the button on the order page will be "Place Order" instead of "Request Fiber".

I hope this helped and that we expand this service to your area in the near future!

Kind regards,
Brandon C.

Hello Boyan,

Any new Sonic service sign-ups will be native Sonic infrastructure. We no longer offer new AT&T sign-ups.

I looked at your account, and your area currently has 1 GB fiber available but is not 10 GB capable yet. The request fiber option is to show that people in your area would like 10 GB fiber brought in.

1 GB fiber area areas will eventually have the option to upgrade to 10 GB, but that option has yet to be made available.

10 GB Fiber has Fusion service, including a VOIP phone line and Internet service. 10 GB Standard Fiber is internet only and does not include a VOIP phone line. 1 GB Fiber circuits only have the Fusion service available with the included VOIP line.

I hope this clarifies any confusion.

Sorry if thread crapping.

What if I initially have 10Gb Fiber installed but down the line want Fusion, how seamless is that change?

Hi Joey,

To clarify, do you mean that if you have Internet Only 10Gbps initially, how difficult is it to upgrade to Fusion 10gbps with a phone number? If so, the process is straightforward, and we can initiate the service change remotely. You would need to contact our customer service team over the phone or initiate it online via https://members.sonic.net/connections/serviceupdate/#/.
