Check availability tool says no service at my address

I periodically check for possible upgrades using my address as the search criterion. Today the tool came back and said there is no Sonic service (at all) available at my address.

When I have used the tool in the past, it would report that I could get resold AT&T FTTN at 75Mbs, which is what I currently have. Sometimes the tool would just report that it is not working at the time and to check back later. Never before did it report that Sonic has no service here. Is the tool broken, or is Sonic withdrawing from my area (San Rafael).

We have recently stopped accepting new IPBB service orders/upgrades for new and existing customers. This would be why you no longer see this service as available at your address. With that being said you currently have the only service we can offer at your address currently.

Our goal is to improve the quality of Internet service in America! By expanding our own Gigabit Fiber we are able to provide top tier customer service, the fastest rates achievable in the country and our award winning privacy policy all at an affordable rate. That being said, infrastructure construction is a large feat and it will take some time to expand those services. Hopefully we can get out to your area in the near future.

In thinking about this answer, you raise a new fear.

Sonic policy has been that fiber will roll out to places with higher concentrations of present customers. Hence the rollout to SF long ahead of Marin, where I am. But if there will be no new IPBB installs in my area, which seems to include FTTN, then there won't be an increase in the Sonic customer base here. And that would seem to imply that fiber will never be here. Sooner or later FTTN for existing customers will be a non-starter for Sonic (my guess).

Does that mean that you will eventually bail on existing customers for whom fiber installation will be a burdensome cost?

We are building fiber in more places faster than ever. Including Marin, where San Rafael for example has pretty extensive work underway.

The deployment priority decision equation for where to build and when is a combination of factors, but demand and cost are the two primary drivers. If we see heavy demand, it can offset higher build costs. If we see less demand, costs must be lower. Demand can be determined by the quantity of existing customers, as well as the volume of requests for service via our website that we see in each region.

I just checked and was pleasantly surprised my home and in-laws now both can subscribe to Sonic fiber up to 10Gb. There is also an option where we can obtain service w/out phone $49.99 vs $59.99.

Our household switched to ATT over a year ago to get better speeds w/out a week of interruption because we were on FX1. Several months ago we wanted to switch back to resold ATT but was told there is only 1 tier of resold ATT fiber @1Gb which we didn't need and it was ~$30 more. Our in-laws have been on resold ATT legacy DSL since they moved there.

Hopefully my wife will agree to switch back. :)

Please do switch back to Sonic for those two locations! We'd love to connect every home we build network past, and it's the fastest product available in the US today. Switching is easy, you just order the Sonic service, get it installed and then cancel the other carrier. If you want home phone, you can port in your number. And if you use email @comcast.net or @att.net, they let you keep that at no cost too. There's no reason not to switch today! ;)

At my in-laws we aren't told what phase it's in through members.sonic.net but for our residence it's in the planning stage. We did pre-order for our home address so hopefully we'll be able to get it in a year or two. I understand there can be many challenges for Sonic but not sure if unincorporated cities are in an advantage or disadvantage--probably a bit of both depending on what's being done.

Has anyone had a successful fiber install in San Rafael, near downtown/Dominican area yet?
