can't get Sonic in new building

I've had my Sonic account for over six years in my current building. I'm moving to a new building next week. The new place is BRAND NEW, construction just finished. And it's literally around the corner from the old one. This is for a home internet connection. I went to the Sonic Check Availability site and confirmed that Sonic was available in the new place. So I called Sonic to schedule an installation appointment. Availability was confirmed and an appointment scheduled.

The ATT tech came yesterday. He said there's no ATT connection to this new building at all, no ATT copper in the building. So there's no way to get Sonic (or any other DSL service) there. I immediately called Sonic tech support and, after a long wait on hold, they confirmed that they cannot in fact connect to this new building. And they're very sorry. (I suggested they update their Check Availability site to reflect this, which as of this writing has not been done.)

I've taken this up with management here and they say everyone's getting a shared Comcast cable connection. This is so repulsive I can barely type it out here. I'm going to lose my VOIP, lose my static IP, lose access to this forum, lose my included hosting services with Sonic. I'm going to lose the excellent, reliable service and support Sonic has always provided me. I still can't quite believe it. How can something like this happen? The new building is a city housing project so maybe that has something to do with it. Has anyone out there run into this before?

thanks

Thank you for reaching out regarding service availability. Unfortunately, with newer buildings this can sometimes occur where there are no copper DSL connections built in during the construction phase. Thus, leaving them unserviceable.

Apologies for the availability issue regarding the new address. Our availability tool for DSL services has some reliability on AT&T and was by no means intentionally set up to be misleading. As well it sounds like our Fiber infrastructure is not available at your new address yet.

Our goal is to improve the quality of Internet service overall. By expanding our own Gigabit Fiber, we are able to provide top tier customer service, the fastest rates achievable in the country and our award-winning privacy policy all at an affordable rate. That being said, infrastructure construction is a large feat, and it will take some time to expand those services. Hopefully we can get out to your area in the future.

As a side note, even if you no longer rely on Sonic for connectivity, you can continue with other services.

There are various options available, so it would be better if you discuss with Support or Billing than trying to cover them in the forum.

I moved to SoCal about 15 months ago, and Sonic doesn't have service in my area (Frontier is the ILEC, having bought the region from Verizon who borged GTE). My connection is via the local cable company (who is the only entity that currently can give us broadband, though some of the wireless providers claim they'll have service in my neighborhood eventually. However, I still have my Sonic mailboxes, domain hosting/DNS, VPN, Faxline, etc.

Like I said, there are multiple options, so your best bet would be to discuss with Sonic directly to figure out the right package for you. ...cheers!
