Arruba switch is a 1930 (about 800$) with 4 sfp+ ports and 24 RJ45 1gb POE+ ports.

Arruba telling me i have to use their transceiver inserts at the UDM port and one at the Aruba side connected via an RJ45 cat 7 patch cable .
Transceivers from Arruba and from Ubquiti cost about 85 dollars

Arruba saying I can't use a very short cable with sfp+ ends such as the one Ubiquiti sells for <20 bucs.

Ubiquiti tech didn't mention the Ubquiti cable, but said I had to use a Ubiquiti transceiver at each device w RJ45 in between.

Makes sense sort of that the transceivers have to be identical at both ends

But why won't a very short cable with sfp+ connectors instead of transceivers?

Probably because those DAC cables haven't been tested by HP.

Have you considered a USW-Pro switch? You can save some $ going with one of those over that HP switch and those Ubiquiti DAC cables you referenced are compatible according to Ubiquiti: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/2 ... ility-List

I'm actually using a couple of those cables for a 10g lagg between a pfSense box and a USW-Pro 48. Not a bad switch though their L3 implementation is rather limited.
