Repeated Fusion Fiber downtime in SF these past couple of weeks

What's going on with all the Fusion Fiber maintenance in San Francisco these days?

This morning was the fourth complete outage I've experienced in the past two weeks (zip code is 94121 for reference): Every time the maintenance description mentions "a small subset of customers in San Francisco" I seem to be affected - am I being the unluckiest customer?

I've been a customer since Sonic brought fiber to the neighborhood (even before actually - I pre-ordered in March 2016 and service started six months later) and while the occasional scheduled maintenance windows have always been a thing, I can't recall ever facing so many outages in such a short period of time, even in the early days. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how well Sonic was able to cope with what I'm sure was a massive increase in traffic that resulted from everyone being home when Covid first hit, so it's puzzling to be faced with so many problems a year and a half later.

I'm a network admin myself so I understand how these things can happen occasionally, but not this regularly!

Are these all related to the same issue, or part of a bigger project, and we can expect things to settle down after a known completion date? Or just a string of bad luck from isolated incidents and it should hopefully be over now?

I'm in the same boat. I'm often awake and working late at night and the combination of more-frequent-than-normal scheduled and unscheduled downtimes in the last couple weeks has been pretty disruptive.

We apologize for the increased frequency of maintenance outages that you have experienced in the last few weeks. They are related to the same issue that we have been attempting to resolve. Unfortunately the previous attempts have not fixed the problem so are still working on a permanent solution. While this work continues, there is the possibility of upcoming maintenance outages which we will do our best to give advanced warning of. While maintenance is always going to be needed, once this issue is resolved, the frequency of them should return to normal.
