IP Geolocation problems with Netflix?

I have sonic fusion, and am assigned an IP address in the 198.27.128.0/17 netblock. All of a sudden, Netflix restricted the catalog I have available, so that a small number of titles disappeared. This is similar to what happens when I travel overseas. If I VPN to a machine at work, I get the normal US catalog again. This suggests Netflix is improperly geolocating Sonic's netblock.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? It's probably Netflix's fault, but I wonder if someone at Sonic could persuade them that, yes, Sonic is actually a US ISP.

Thanks.

We have received reports from other customers, and have reached out to Netflix in hopes that they will update their IP geo blocking.

I would also suggest that as their customer you’re in the best position to press them for a resolution. So please, do contact Netflix customer service:

Yeah, I reported it through the chat interface. Took almost an hour because they kept asking about everything except the IP address, even though I repeatedly explained that only the IP address mattered. Laptop at work, fine. Laptop at home, no dice. Laptop at home on VPN, fine. Same thing with Windows, Linux, Android. In the end they said they would file a bug report but that there is no timeframe for fixing it.

Obviously Netflix doesn't care about one customer, but I'm assuming this has to hold for most of the IP netblock, right? Is there anyone here in the 198.27.128/17 netblock who does get the full US Netflix catalog? I'm wondering if it's just some of the IP addresses, or if all of Sonic has been blacklisted.

Doesn't Sonic host a cache for Netflix or peer with them? Shouldn't that give you some leverage to tell Netflix not to deny service to your customers? Does anyone have experience getting a partial refund or from Netflix for periods when the catalog is unavailable?

I don't have any problems with Netflix geolocation. But my IP is in a different netblock. I'm in 192.184.128.0/17.

Interestingly though, Netflix has a page about the problem here: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/26100
They say to check your IP at https://wq.apnic.net/static/search.html. I tried to check the block you are having problems with and it says it's in the US.

Either Netflix is doing a different internal check than what they tell customers to check or there is something else going on in this specific case.
