We have the standard Pace 4111N wifi router but this model has no parental controls whatsoever. Can we use another router (with parental control settings) instead of this one?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

What kind of parental controls are you seeking? Just restrictions on accessible web sites? Or hours/session limits, etc.? If just the former, look into opendns.org.

Yes, you can chain another router on, disabling the WiFi on the Pace 4111N. You'll still pay $6.50/month for the rental however.

Depending on what you need in terms of parental controls, you should check out OpenDNS. It's free and works with the Pace Modem/Router that Sonic uses.

I'd second this suggestion! Best of both worlds.

Seeking parental controls on the Sonic/Pace router that exclude specified devices front connecting to the internet during certain days/hours.

You know, to automatically get the kids off the internet and ready for sleep starting at 9pm on school nights.

Disabling wi-fi and using a different wi-fi access point or using OpenDNS to get this basic functionality is silly. The Pace router should support this simple function.

FYI, you can also put a power outlet timer on the router power plug, to limit hours of access (old school).

Parents want to limit their kids' access to the internet, not shut down the whole house ;)
