I currently have 6mbps dsl service from sonic and phone from AT&T. I gather to switch to fusion, I just put in an order on the web form as usual. Not a problem.

What I'd like to know is what affect this has on the price of the service and the speed I am getting. I wouldn't be downgraded to 3mbps, right? Would there be any increase, or is it basiclly the same thing? And how much more per month is adding phone service?

The pricing is on the web page (http://www.sonic.net/solutions/home/internet/fusion/). As you can see, it includes phone. The bit rate will be as high as the line will support, up to 20 Mbps.

The only caveat is that you must be connected directly to a Central Office, not to a Remote Terminal. When you go to sign up for Fusion, you'll be told if you qualify.

you might have seen these two frequently referenced charts (line chart and scatter graph) showing speed and distance from the Central Office

Fusion service is $39.95, but taxes and fees apply to the voice telephone service just like your current AT&T line. You can find an estimate of the total for your specific city at: http://www.sonic.net/solutions/home/int ... es#example

Fusion also comes with a new modem/router with WiFi-N, which is $6.50 monthly. It's a 100Mbps network router, plus 802.11N WiFi, with 300mw 2x2 diverse antennas for extended coverage.

As to performance - Fusion should always perform better than the older ADSL1 connection that you've got with the AT&T line. Fusion is ADSL2+, offering up to three times the download performance, and nearly double the upstream speed. But, distance affects these gains - the further away you are, the less the speed increase will be. But in all cases, it'll be faster, particularly on the upload speed.

So, do switch online, it's quick and easy. http://fusion.sonic.net/
