Hello everyone I have been trying to get my computer to connect to the client using openvpn. I went into my network config setting and imported my vpn client. it asked me for a password key (please tell me how to find that if you know) after putting in my user and password. However I couldn't connect. I called support and they said to try to ping to the server. When I tried to ping to the server I got "ping: ovpn.sonic.net:443: Name or service not known" can anyone please help me out?

Posting your OpenVPN client config and log would help with troubleshooting.

When I tried to ping to the server I got "ping: ovpn.sonic.net:443: Name or service not known" can anyone please help me out?

Remove the port if you're just trying to ping the server. If you want to check the port then use nmap:

Code: Select all

nmap -p 443 ovpn.sonic.net

Starting Nmap 7.80 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2020-01-25 13:08 Pacific Standard Time
Nmap scan report for ovpn.sonic.net (157.131.0.17)
Host is up (0.033s latency).
rDNS record for 157.131.0.17: a.ovpn.sjc.sonic.net
PORT    STATE SERVICE
443/tcp open  https
