Will Sonic upgrade DSLAMs to VDSL2? (if not already done?)

Thanks again, Dane. I can't wait! It's frustrating to be stuck on 2 Mb/sec in the heart of Silicon Valley in 2015.

Indeed! Look at Guerneville. The old CO was torn down, and replaced by a cabinet mounted to a pole, serving the entire town. It's just a remote off Sebastopol's DMS-100.

The CO for Volcano, CA, is similar. It's just a cabinet on the edge of town. The exchange is a large area, but the Volcano Telephone Company has remotes every couple of miles down along every major road. It has been offering phone + Internet + TV to homes in its operating area for years.

And is this the case now across all areas where Sonic's own Fusion product is available or still limited to some areas? I've recommended Sonic's Fusion to friends and neighbors here in Burlingame and several would be ready to switch, but I told them to hold off until Sonic is provisioning the new VDSL2 ports for new customers, so they would not be hit with an upgrade fee down the road.

I am located in Downtown Oakland and have a loop under 4,000ft. I currently have sonic fusion service. When can I expect VDSL2 to be rolled out in my area?

We do not have firm timing for specific locations yet, nor has the process for upgrades been fully designed. We are working on it!

This morning, for the first time, Sonic's Check Availability page qualified my location (in SF, 1912 feet from the CO) for "Fusion up to 50Mbps" (and "x2 up to 100Mbps") which is presumably the VDSL2 service they're rolling out. Previously, it only qualified me for the lower speeds I'm currently receiving via ADSL2+. I haven't received a message from Sonic saying they're ready to upgrade me, but it's a sign of progress, anyway!

Well spotted.

We rolled new speed estimates out to the website on Friday. If a CO is VDSL2 equipped, locations that are closer will see higher speed estimates. The maximum Fusion speed is for sites within 1,000ft, which can deliver up to 75Mbps for the single line service and up to 150Mbps for the X2 service.

The actual speed record to date is a customer achieving 160Mbps/85Mbps down/up bonded sync with Fusion X2 service at a location in Ft. Bragg. Here's their speed test result: http://netgauge.ookla.com/share/143054758.png

Regarding VDSL2 upgrades for existing customers close to COs, we're still pushing the cards to more COs, and dealing with some bugs, and haven't get the process designed yet for these migrations either. We're working on it!

Dane, I'm currently getting close to 6Mbps on my Legacy DSL with Sonic. With the box that I'm near...corner of Summerfield/Rock Springs SESR...can you give ANY indication that there is a speed upgrade coming in the next 1-3 months? A Yes/No will do.

See...that wasn't hard! Just say "Yes"!

So what specific day and how fast can I expect? ...just kidding...

Thanks again for the clue...As a loyal customer since, I think 1996, I appreciate it!
