Ok, thanks. Just curious...what determines the ratio of down to up? Why is his ratio close to 2:1 while the examples you posted below are more like 8:1?

It's negotiated by the modem and DSLAM, and is influenced by factors such as attenuation, balance, interference from other signals and quality of the outside plant and home wiring.

Any chance Sonic's distance estimation is inaccurate? My distance shows as 5,000 feet which means I'm a little too far to see any meaningful benefits. It makes me cry a little on the inside.

Distances can sometimes be inaccurate, but no way to know until service is up and running.

Dane, i recently talked with support and they mentioned that there is a cutoff @ 4000 ft from the CO in at least one of your tools that determines whether a line would benefit from VDSL. Since I'm @ 4661 ft per the prequal page, I assume my distance would preclude me from getting VDSL2? I thought 5000ft was the cutoff?

When a CO is upgrade to VDSL2, for the people at a greater distance from the CO but under 5000 ft, is there any way to estimate whether they would get a benefit to migrating up to VDSL2 vs. bonded Fusion vs. going with the VRAD-based product)?

If you are within the theoretical 1,500 meters (~5100 ft.), you have a great chance of gaining some meaningful benefit from VDSL2+; but, that all depends upon many conditions as already stated. If Sonic doesn't contact you by the end of April, you should contact them to see if they can send you a VDSL2 modem to test whether your connection improves.

Today we provision VDSL2 out to 4,000ft. As we get more customers on that platform, we will review real-world performance to determine if we can achieve any gains using this technology for loops longer than this.

Any estimate on when this VDSL2 upgrade will be available in San Francisco (and which neighborhoods?)?

For newly provisioned loops under 4,000ft, all SF regions are now VDSL2 enabled. For migrations of existing loops over to the new interfaces, we have some work to do on the process and workflow, then we will offer that to existing members.

That is disappointing. I'm at 4,109ft and for the past 6 month was holding out for the "available soon" VDSL2 to boost my dl/ul speeds at the same price point. The Fusion X2 offer is not an option for me as there are many other options here (Astound, DSLextreme, AT&T) at a lower price point.

So if I were to guess then, VDSL2 for existing customers is another 6+ month of "soon" away and customers who are grandfathered in with their own DSL modem (vs. rental modem) will also be required to switch to the Sonic VDSL2 rental modem instead of continuing to BYOD (VDSL2) modem at time of migration. Is that a fair assessment, Dane?
