Are there any updates re: progress on VDSL2? I just read the article on Multichannel News and noticed the mentioning of VDSL2 field trials. So it sounds like it's gotten past the Lab stage?

It's gotten to the field stage. First live circuit:

We are working now to get the interfaces into more COs - they're only in three today - then we'll begin to load customers, cautiously as we observe performance and stability.

This is extremely exciting, thank you for the update!

Mmm this is a little bit of positive news staying with the DSL standards :o

But how far can we be for us to enjoy the benefits of VDSL2?

I believe I am ~6000-8000 ft from the CO, if you can tell me how far I am by my username that would be great.

Right now I am getting a little bit less than 50% of the 20 mbps speed because of distance at 9 mbps.
So would would getting upgraded to VDSL2 help at all?

Unfortunately my household has been getting bandwidth crazy (streaming and what not...) and the 9 mbps is not cutting it anymore.

I love sonic as a company hence why I have stuck with you guys, so any good news would be great!

Any updates on this for the L.A. area? I'm right at 2k ft and would love to get some VDSL2! I already have a Zyxel P873HNUP (pair bonding VDSL2) gateway ready to go!

100% ditto to aznalan15. What fraction of the customer base is actually close enough to get much benefit from VDSL? I'm at ~7300' and getting 8 Mbps on a good day. I convinced my SO to sign up recently and she's getting 3 Mbps in a much denser urban area (Oakland 880 loop), which is really disappointing to her compared to the cable her former housemate was paying for as she does a lot of Netflix / Hulu / etc.

I am basically sticking with Sonic at this point because I like the way you treat customers (modem fee aside) and the cluefulness of your tech support. But it becomes less and less tenable over time as more bandwidth-hungry services emerge, and I see zero prospect of Sonic fiber coming to Mt. View in the forseeable future. Hopefully some viable path will emerge before I have to make an unpleasant decision to jump ship from the barnacle-laden but user-friendly rowboat of Sonic to the prison cruise ship of cable providers.
