Yay, my fiber install option has finally arrived!!!! One of the last folks in Albany, lol. 7/23, hurrah!

Two questions:

1. how can I keep my landline phone number (currently with sonic fusion)?

2. What does the total price come out to these days (the install page said it was $50 plus $9.50 for RG plus
taxes and fees - didn't say anything about the $10 one year credit)?

I would suggest calling over to support (707-522-1000) to make sure we have one set, or if we do not have one set we can do that right away since you have the number with us. The number port happens after the install either the same day or next.

On average pricing seems to be around 60-70$ with the 10$ off promotion.

Ok, I will call as it get closer about the #. As to pricing, I just want to know how much it will differ from my fusion rate.
Right now I pay $61 (using my own router) for fusion with a phone line (after 8 years). I may have been mistaken but I thought the plan was $40 the first year plus $10 RG rental, less a $10 credit, so $40 + phone charges. When I signed up it showed $50 per month plus $9.50 RG, no credit, and also said there were the fees and taxes. Additionally, I got an email a while back offering one free month (construction email). Can you clarify better for me? I hate surprises =).

Since you are an existing customer past a year the 10$ off promotion that discount is not available. That promotion is just for new customers. The pricing you are looking at then is 50$ for the service, 9.50 router rental ( since you have your own you can not need this and opt out ) and then taxes and fees so you are looking at roughly 60-65$ a month if you opt out of the rental.

Seriously? The $10 for one year doesn't apple to long-time customers? Because you wouldn't want to keep them, right?
Jeez. You are making me seriously think about using LMI.net. It's Sonic, but it's also cheaper and gives 2 months free.
I've loved you guys for 8 years but if this is how you want to treat your long-time customers - who have waited while you completed every home in Albany except for the 900 blocks - wow, that's just terrible. If you can't reconsider, I will cancel my install and sign up with LMI. It's not an insignificant amount of money to a retired person.

Two more questions, please. If I decide to sign up without the RG rental (which means I will pay exactly what I'm paying now as I understand it - $50 + $11.03 for phone and taxes and fees) then if there is a problem later on I will be charged for a site visit IF the problem is in my equipment. Is that correct? So if the problem is with your ONT or anything between the ONT and Sonic, there is no charge for the site visit? That would make sense. But If there is a problem on my end up to the ONT, then there would be a charge? Please can you clarify this as I have read two different opinions on this forum regarding this.

Finally, I have this router: https://www.costco.com/TP-Link-Archer-C ... 18449.html My old router died and I purchased this specifically anticipating gigabit service. Also my old one couldn't push the signal very far in my home and this thing is super strong. Is there any reason this router would not play nicely with your gigabit service? I have an old Roku that connects at N speed, and a laptop (N speed) and desktop (AC speed).

While I am incredibly frustrating with the handling of the promotion, and I can actually get better pricing through LMI, it would be a hassle to switch (might lose my phone # among other things) so I am still thinking about it. Your answers to the above will help me decide.

That is correct. Our wire policy without the modem/router rental will cover all costs to the ONT. Anything from the ONT and beyond we will cover if anything goes wrong. If we come out and it's only the modem/routers fault then we will charge a truckroll fee.

The router you picked looks good for our service. Looks like it has everything to support the gigabit service. I can't say for sure if it will work nicely but I have not seen one that has been a problem for our customers.

While I can't change anything on pricing I can see what I can do for your situation. Go ahead and Private message me your account information and I will see what I can do.

Just wanted to post something now that I am up and running on fiber. First of all, the installer (Servante, I think?) was terrific. Polite, friendly, and willing to answer any stupid question I had. Very neat install, too. I'm using my own router (Tp-link AC4000) and I can run a speedtest with their app through the router. I'm getting 913 down and 902 up. On a laptop in the same room on wifi, I got 600 with fast.com Now on my iMac which is in a back bedroom, behind a washer/dryer and some plaster walls, I get 250. Nope, that's not gigabit. But that's reality. It's wifi, a long distance and no line of sight.
In any case, I'm coming from 12.2 with your fusion service, so the difference reminds me of when I went from dial up to dsl the first time, lol. It's just a whole new world! Not only have the little "drops" completely disappeared, and I can download while watching Netflix or actually surf the web while downloading, but everything downloads in seconds now or maybe a couple minutes - compared to hours or half hours.
Do I care if it takes me 60 seconds to download something instead of 30, heck no. If I cared then I would run cat 7 from the router to my iMac. But it's plenty fast and stable to boot. So happy to finally have it, thanks, Sonic!!!
