Any plans for gigabit/FTTH access in Oakland/Piedmont (94611)? Thanks.

Not currently in planning, no. The only regions we have stated concrete plans for are Sebastopol, and a pilot in the Outer Sunset in San Francisco. As those wrap up, we will evaluate where to expand next.

Why San Francisco instead of say the Santa Clara valley?
Higher visibility? Higher housing density? Better demographics?
There is some activist opposition to cabinets and other infrastructure. That kind os opposition seems less likely outside the City.

Yes, for all of those reasons. See also:Wco wrote:Why San Francisco instead of say the Santa Clara valley?

Is there a status page, or an update about when the gigabit rollout is expected to happen in the Sunset district? I just learned about this tonight and more than excited!
No specific status page, we post occasional updates here or in the blog, or via email to existing customers. If you are not already online with us, do consider switching, it helps the overall effort.John wrote:Is there a status page, or an update about when the gigabit rollout is expected to happen in the Sunset district? Please consider The Mission. The density is high; that's where the tech kids from SoMa are; our existing options have severe uptime problems; there's enough back yard that you could reach entire blocks.

We'll certainly consider other SF neighborhoods once our first pilot is approved. It looks like the public hearing will be sometime in May, so things are moving along, slowly.John Haugeland wrote:Please consider The Mission. Dane: The Sebastopol fiber map is quite old. Is the fiber service currently still exclusive to the tiny one block street section (in green), or has it gone online for the "purple"-coded region of the map as well? A general idea of whether or not the fiber service will be available in 2013 for the "purple" zone, and what the rough estimate is for the "blue" zone would be extremely helpful for someone in the home-buying market shopping around Sebastopol. :)
The next phase in Sebastopol is built, but we're not yet provisioning there because we're in the midst of changes to the customer premise equipment, provisioning and product design. We've got some exciting stuff in the hopper.
If you're buying in Sebastopol, look for aerial utility lines, within city limits and we're likely there eventually.
