With the 11n standard getting long in the tooth (tech years are like dog years), is there a new Sonic-standard modem/router with 11ac capability on the horizon? Preferably with Gig-E RJ-45 autosensing ports for, e.g., home-SAN to media link?

There isn't yet a shipping device ready for us to consider, but we will see our hardware updated over time. The equipment management platform allows for this, and will let us do things like lower the price of older equipment over time, while allowing customers to update to newer equipment too.

The intro and start-ship of the Netgear D6300 DSL/11ac unit was what prompted the inquiry. They support native IPv6 as well as v6 tunneling (seemed like a potential plus). The downside is it's based on early Broadcom 11acD2 silicon; 11acD3 has better support for implicit transmit beamforming. Second downside is it's pricey, even though Broadcom has stated that the wireless chip bits are a 50% cost delta (maybe $2.50 increase in BOM) -- marketing hype for the early adopters appears to be the proximate price driver.

Looking forward to running an 11ac unit in the Sunset when the fiber starts being installed. I'm hoping it will all be ready when UHDTV prices become reasonable.
