Because less than 1% has the hardware capabilities at home to utilize all that. You can say the 10Gb can alleviate from someone saturating a 1Gb, but I don't think many will do that for long periods of time.

IOW, day-to-day use, you "MOST LIKELY" won't feel a difference.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Sonic was offering non-bundled 10g fiber service as that had been suggested many times on the forums over the years and it had always been rejected for various reasons, most notably because Sonic wants/needs the revenue generated by the voice service. I'm assuming that's still the reason why non-bundled 1g fiber service is not being offered at this time.

With that in mind, for Fusion customers, wouldn't it make sense to increase the data service price by $10 (from $49.99 to $59.99), decrease the voice service price by $10 (from $10.00 to $0.00), and make voice service optional?

It seems to me like that would be a win for everyone:
- Sonic would still receive the same amount ($59.99) from every customer
- customers who do not use voice service would end up with a bill that's ~$10 cheaper as most of the voice-associated taxes would be removed
- customers who do use voice service (or who are on Fusion over copper and are therefore required to have bundled phone service) would see no difference on their bill

MOST residential users do not even really NEED 1 gbps.

The debate between 1 gbps and 10 gbps is like Ferrari and Maserati trying to sell you a car for the sole purpose of backing down your driveway to the mailbox every day.

Unless you are the Brady Bunch with 9 people (including Alice) each streaming 4K and gaming and zoom calling on 5 devices simultaneously, 1gbps is going to be perfectly fine for 99.9% of people.

If you are looking to remove phone service with your Fiber 1 gig service, then you will need to apply for the ACP (https://www.sonic.com/affordable-connectivity-program). Once that has been completed and added to your Sonic account, you can then request a downgrade to Internet-only service. This is currently the only way to get Internet only for Fiber 1 gig.

And is the transition seamless? Do we need to do anything else or is it just one click that's it?

One more question, I want to keep my phone number after downgrading, can I port the number out? Will porting the number out cancel my whole sonic service or just the voice? This downgrade would happen remotely and would only cause a few minutes of downtime.

The expectation is that ACP is not going to end, the intention of the program is to have some longevity. However if ACP did end, you would likely get to keep the internet only service however that isn't something we have really considered at this point.

You will need to port your phone number out before you initiate the downgrade. Porting out a number does not cancel your Sonic account or the voice service. Once the port is completed, you will be assigned a random phone number which will be removed once you start the downgrade.
